Castle Place Commercial Centre

Castle Street
Castle Hill

Summary

Project Completion: 1993
Building Area: 3,000m2
Project Value: $5,000,000

The Area

The project is located in the Central shopping area of Castle Hill fronting Castle Street. Sitting immediately behind the Post Office, the area around the site has since been developed into Castle Towers Shopping Centre, one of the best trading retail centres in Australia.

The Property

Capital acquired the site after a tender process from Baulkham Hills Shire Council. The tender success was based on price and design. The Architects for this project had designed a very intricate building, which covered the whole site. It was necessary to take over a portion of Castle Place and to completely hoard the site for protection of the public.

Because the site was in a prominent location for traffic, Council and local traffic police would only allow deliveries, cranage and concrete pours outside peak hours. Structural steel, roofing, pre-cast and air conditioning were all erected on weekends, so as to cause minimum interference to the local community.

The windows and glazing for the building are very detailed, with the architect requiring many different planes and angles to create an effective and interesting facade. This was then finished with an integrated sunscreen system of powder-coated aluminium.

With the detailed shapes of the facade, it would have been good to be able to site measure all the openings, but due to time constraints this was not possible and it was necessary to workshop fabricate to agreed sizes.

The complex was completed well ahead of schedule.
